Hardie Plank Siding Joints

Hardieplank lap siding with colorplus technology is shipped with a protective laminate slip sheet which should be left in place during cutting and fastening to reduce marring and scratching.

Color options are virtually unlimited. A common problem with cement board siding products and some other types of horizontal lap siding is that older installation guidelines called for caulking the joint instead of flashing the joint. For colorplus products use the color matched edge coater to seal the cut end. James hardie 8 25 in x 144 in hz10 hardieplank beaded cedarmill fiber cement lap siding.

James hardie also does not recommend applying caulk to the horizontal overlap between siding planks see figure 2. Place cut ends where the siding meets a corner door window trim or other break in the wall where the joint is to be caulked. The sheet should be removed immediately after each plank is installed. If cut ends are used in a butt joint between planks james hardie requires sealing cut ends for all products. Hardie plank siding has a nail line across the top of the board that is 1 down from the top and nails are supposed to fall between and 1 from the top of the board to give the best hold. Use moderate contact on butt joints when joining two pieces of plank. Hardie board siding can be made to mimic just about any other siding material including wood lap boards cedar shingles and wood shake siding.

James hardie does not recommend using caulk or h jointers for the butt joints of hardieplank siding with colorplus technology.
