Our beautiful and award winning roof garden sits atop queen elizabeth hall as an oasis in central london. Hayward gallery rood garden and cafe. Queen elizabeth hall roof garden was established in 2011 as part of southbank centre s celebrations for the 60th anniversary of the festival of britain. There is a variety of flora and fauna on both levels of the garden.

The hayward gallery is an art gallery within the southbank centre in central london england and part of an area of major arts venues on the south bank of the river thames it is sited adjacent to the other southbank centre buildings the royal festival hall and the queen elizabeth hall purcell room and also the national theatre and bfi southbank repertory cinema. It s free to visit and relax among wildflowers fruit trees and allotments with beautiful views of the thames and london s iconic skyline there is also a rooftop bar and cafe serving beers wines soft drinks tea and coffee a range of sandwiches and other snacks. The surface of the paths on the lower levels is concrete tiles. The rooftop garden is split over two levels. Located in the hayward gallery on the rooftop of the southbank centre among the trees exhibition gives many different views of the humble tree. These refurbishment works are part of a wider scheme designed by architects feilden clegg bradley which include the pedestrianisation of the route to the river between royal festival hall queen elizabeth hall and hayward gallery extension of the queen elizabeth hall roof gardens the creation of new performance spaces and the improvement of. The cafe is ok but a bit limited in choice and pricey but very welcome. It was built and is maintained by a group of volunteers who have all experienced homelessness mental health or substance abuse problems.
